How often don’t we complain and say “I wish I could just be happy”? I for one, am guilty of this at so many times in my life. It has taken me a long time and (Admittedly, I’m not there yet) to define true happiness in life. I read somewhere that “to be happy…be happy” Maybe I’m slow, but at first I didn’t get it. I mean…How can these 2 little words be the secret to being happy, there has to be more…
It’s the one thing I often forget to do, to just be happy. I concentrate on the outside elements, the people and things around me and their happiness and in the midst of it all, I forget about myself. I’ve forgotten what it’s like and I know there are so many others who are in this phase of their lives as well.
No-one knows what goes on inside of you for obvious reasons:
a) They cannot humanly see inside of you, and
b) You can portray through body language and curses how unhappy you are about something BUT they still won’t get it.
Sit down and face it head on. Find out what it is that’s making you so miserable and deal with it, don’t hide, don’t run away (that must be one of the hardest things to do…trying to run away from yourself. LOL!) Once you’ve figured it out and DEALT WITH IT THEN AND THERE, give yourself a pat on the back, a reward even and move on.
Now, don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying it’s going to be as simple as this every time. If there’s one thing I WILL GUARANTEE you, it’s that this is probably going to be one of the hardest things you will have to do especially if you haven’t harnessed it yet. It might even require repetition…a few times. Just remember…
I am reminded of the movie with Drew Barrymore, 50 first dates…where she wakes up every morning, having forgotten everything that had happened the day before. Imagine that. Waking up every morning and starting over. I’d like to use part of that movie to play out my analogy. We already live each day and after going to sleep, wake up to a new morning. This is the norm…Now take this incredible gift and make each day count for something new. If you didn’t succeed at it the day before, then try again and so forth. How awesome would that be?
Failure is part of success, part of the process of growth. We do not wish for it, we do not ask for it, but knowing that it does exist and accepting it as part of the journey is paramount. There are a few things which are crucial to sustaining your happiness. Your Attitude towards what you need to do to get to the end goal, Acceptance of yourself for who you are but more importantly Faith in a loving God who has your back every step of the way.
Go on…give it a try ’cause you have nothing to lose and everything to gain…and so will I.
